Philosophy
We are firstly committed to our clients. We listen carefully to their needs and wishes and most importantly their budget. We also 'listen' to their buildings and what they offer in terms of materials, heritage and potential. We enjoy collaborating with clients, giving them regular updates and allowing plenty of scope to discuss layouts, participate in the selection of materials, specification of fittings and choice of procurement method. We regularly work with owner builders, providing advice on contracting and construction management.
Our primary principal of design is sustainability. This is pursued in several ways.
Long life - loose fit means creating enduring envelopes which, over time, can accommodate changing uses as household needs change.
Solar passive design is driven by the desire to establish comfortable and enjoyable spaces as well as the need for heating and cooling economy.
Low environmental impact principles inform our thinking from site selection and construction methods through to materials and lighting selection, paint specification and long term maintenance.
Beyond sustainability we seek to create very livable spaces; efficient workspaces, good circulation and strong connections to outdoor areas, infused with daylight, ventilation and the warmth of natural materials.
Rather than follow trends, we seek timeless solutions with simple lines, tried and tested materials quality fittings and careful detailing. We believe good design embodies universal access and practical solutions rather than 'look at me' features.
